Post Natal Massage

Why is it important to continue massage postnatally?

womens-healthDuring the postnatal period, your body is going through big changes and you need to be careful not to over stimulate it. The body has just experienced one of the most emotional and exhausting athletic events in your life. The time it takes for your body to return to normal differs for each individual woman. It all depends on factors such as: the type of pregnancy you had, your general health and the type of birth you experienced. However specialised massage and bodywork treatment can commence immediately after giving birth. The treatment is designed specifically for your individual needs.

Benefits of Postnatal Massage:

Emotionally and physically the postnatal period can put a great deal of strain on mothers and massage during this time can help to:

  • Alleviate the muscle strain and muscle fatigue of labour and birth
  • Rebalance the pelvic and spinal structures
  • Restore and normalise abdominal structures
  • Promote pelvic floor healing and comfort
  • Restore normal walking patterns
  • Facilitate healing from caesarean birth
  • Prevent and reduce back and neck pain caused by caring for the newborn
  • Take time to fully relax and help the body recover
  • Give nurturing and emotional support

It is important that you take care of yourself as well as your baby in the months following childbirth.

aromatherapy massage

womens-healthAromatherapy massage is massage therapy but with highly concentrated plant oils, called essential oils, added to the massage oil or lotion. Aromatherapy massage is particularly suited to conditions involving stress or improving emotionally-related conditions.

Stress and stress-related conditions such as insomnia
Headache
Digestive disorders
Premenstrual syndrome (PMS)
Back pain

How does aromatherapy massage work?

The nostrils are attached to a part of the brain called the limbic system. The limbic system controls emotions and influences the nervous system and hormones.
When you inhale essential oil molecules, messages are transmitted to the limbic system and affect heart rate, stress level, blood pressure, breathing, memory, digestion, and the immune system.
Essential oils are also believed to be absorbed through the skin. Home treatments can also be recommended.
Each essential oil has different healing properties. For example, some calm while others energize.

Consultation required.
